Doctors' Day is held every year on March 30 in the United States to celebrate the contributions of physicians. Although President George Bush officially signed Doctors’ Day into U.S. law on October 30, 1990, the first observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. The holiday was conceived by Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, who decided to set aside a day to honor physicians like her husband. March 30 was chosen because it is the anniversary of the day that general anesthesia was first used in surgery by Dr. Crawford W. Long in 1842.
