Act F.A.S.T. to save a life.
When it comes to stroke, the faster you seek medical care, the better the outcome. The chances of brain damage increases for every minute the brain is deprived of necessary oxygen. Symptoms are easy to spot — if you know them. Here’s how to respond using the F.A.S.T. key signs.
Face. Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?
Arms. Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift down? Is the person able to lift their arms or does one arm drift down?
Speech. Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence. Do they slur any words? Can the patient repeat the sentence correctly?
Time. If the person is struggling with these basic commands, call 911 immediately.
