Gloria Green knows that proper nutrition and good health go hand in hand, which is why she has dedicated decades to the Food and Nutrition department at North Shore Medical Center.
“Once a week I work in food service,” says Green. “Years ago I started out delivering trays for breakfast and lunch. We had to push carts on carpet, which was much harder than it is now.”
Green, a former Miami-Dade County elementary school teacher, first started volunteering when she retired in 1981.
“I decided to give back something to my community. I didn’t want to go back to the schools, so I went to the hospital,” she says.
In 30 years, Green has seen quite a bit of change in the hospital. One thing that hasn’t changed is North Shore’s dedication to serving the community.
“There has been a lot of change, but what’s consistent is that people in the community still love the hospital,” she says.
Green enjoys helping serve meals to patients.
“People always joke about hospital food,” she says, “but at North Shore, some say it’s the best food they’ve ever had.”
